The Colorful Journey:The History of Cylent Beatz

Cylent Beatz started as a bit of fun. A group of friends in the early 2000’s formed a common interest in music, film, comedy and Valleys culture. They began filming skits, creating comedy songs and filming pranks. This group became known as The Welshside Crew. A play on American West Coast Rap. However, over time the creating music aspect of the friendship really stood out to the group and they formed a rap group called Cylent Beatz within the overall friendship of The Welshside Crew. This is how the group features many artists.

Cylent Beatz originally formed as a rap group in the year 2008. With its founding members being Daryl Evans, Karl T, Eazy D, Big K and C Jay. During this time the group recorded a demo album titled Happy Dayz and made their first popular song during this time titled Fish Fish Godzilla.

In a recent interview with Daryl Evans he said “The song itself isn’t that good, it’s basically a rap battle within the group just taking the p*** out of each other. It is quite creative though with some tempo changes and outlandish ad libbing. But the song itself is very much of its time, it did serve as a stepping stone for the group and was our first popular song. Making that project was so much fun”.

The following years featured much more from artists Big Daddy Bones, Morgan Latrell and K Flow. Karl T took a step back from making music at this point but the new members and the existing members then creating several EP’s. The Colour Of Musik EP and Viva La Valleys Volume 1 and 2.

These EP’s were again another stepping stone for the group but the members really experimented with their sound and were not afraid to push the boundaries of what can be said. The group also created songs that are light hearted and speak of love and positivity proving how versatile the group were. This time many tracks with the most popular being Slimy, Valleys, Lost Love and Champagne.

The next album recorded was in 2012 and titled Valleyfornia. This album was the most decorated album of the groups history featuring some of their best tracks to date including Sumin Sexy, One Chance, Doel Bums and Ur Misses. The group would also go on in the following year to create another EP titled Viva La Valleys Volume 3. This release would be their final release for 10 years, without then realising at the time because the group then disbanded for the greater good of setting up the a music label with the same name becoming Cylent Beatz Productions.

From 2013 to 2016 the group disbanded and the artists recorded several solo albums each. The project Cylent Beat Productions then organised as a music label and events company putting on rap shows and rap battles in The Valleys becoming the only organisation to do so at the time. For several years the once rap group became an influencing force inspiring many artists joining the label and to join the live scene. The label had many memorable moments and was a positive impact for rap music from The Valleys during its time.

Many of the recordings that were made during that time have now been remastered and is now featured on our website. The group has now reformed with several original members and one new addition. The group now features K Flow, Eazy D, Daryl Evans and Kelly D. With their first single in 10 years coming later this year their discography can be found here.

Cylent Beatz have recently announced they are creating some new material and have began recording it. We spoke with member Daryl Evans and he said "We are recording some new material, it will most likely be a new album and possibly another installment of the Viva La Valleys Series. We are in the first draft recording process at the moment so songs are a long way away from being released but we should have a single ready pretty soon".
